چکیده

We explore the finite sample properties of several semiparametric estimators of average treatment effects, including propensity score reweighting, matching, double robust, and control function estimators. When there is good overlap in the distribution of propensity scores for treatment and control units, reweighting estimators are preferred on bias grounds and attain the semiparametric efficiency bound even for samples of size 100. Pair matching exhibits similarly good performance in terms of bias, but has notably higher variance. Local linear and ridge matching are competitive with reweighting in terms of bias and variance, but only once n = 500. Nearest-neighbor, kernel, and blocking matching are not competitive. When overlap is close to failing, none of the estimators examined perform well and √ n -asymptotics may be a poor guide to finite sample performance. Trimming rules, commonly used in the face of problems with overlap, are effective only in settings with homogeneous treatment effects. JEL Classification: C14, C21, C52.

Ridge Stochastic Restricted Estimators in Semiparametric Linear Measurement Error Models

In this article we consider the stochastic restricted ridge estimation in semipara-metric linear models when the covariates are measured with additive errors. The development of penalized corrected likelihood method in such model is the basis for derivation of ridge estimates. The asymptotic normality of the resulting estimates are established. Also, necessary and sufficient condition...

The Finite Sample Performance of Semiand Nonparametric Estimators for Treatment Effects and Policy Evaluation This paper investigates the finite sample performance of a comprehensive set of semiand nonparametric estimators for treatment and policy evaluation. In contrast to previous simulation studies which mostly considered semiparametric approaches relying on parametric propensity score estim...

Estimating Multiple Treatment Effects Using Two-phase Regression Estimators

We propose a semiparametric two-phase regression estimator with a semiparametric generalized propensity score estimator for estimating average treatment effects in the presence of informative first-phase sampling. The proposed estimator can be easily extended to any number of treatments and does not rely on a prespecified form of the response or outcome functions. The proposed estimator is show...

Nonparametric and Semiparametric Analysis of a Dynamic Discrete Game

In this paper, we study the identification and estimation of a dynamic discrete game allowing for discrete or continuous state variables. We first provide a general nonparametric identification result under the imposition of an exclusion restrictions on agents payoffs. Next we analyze large sample statistical properties of nonparametric and semiparametric estimators for the econometric dynamic ...

Cross-Fitting and Fast Remainder Rates for Semiparametric Estimation

There are many interesting and widely used estimators of a functional with finite semiparametric variance bound that depend on nonparametric estimators of nuisance functions. We use cross-fitting (i.e. sample splitting) to construct novel estimators with fast remainder rates. We give cross-fit doubly robust estimators that use separate subsamples to estimate different nuisance functions. We obt...
